In 1939 Benny Goodman - "The King of Swing" - created a new sound. He formed a sextet which combined his sophisticated swing with the earthy blues of guitarist Charlie Christian and the dynamic vibraphone of Lionel Hampton.

Supported by a cookin' rhythm section these new sounds proved to be irresistible to millions of people.
